Jeff Bezos joins Investor Group pursuing major Liverpool FC stake at $6Billion valuation

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has joined an investment consortium targeting a significant minority stake in Liverpool FC, in a deal that could value the Premier League club at roughly $6 billion and further underscore the rapid appreciation of elite sports franchises.

Jeff Bezos is set to make his first major investment in European football after joining a consortium negotiating to acquire a significant minority stake in Liverpool Football Club, according to reports in the UK.

Businessman Amit Bhatia leads the investment group and includes Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of Facebook. The consortium is seeking a stake of more than 30% in the Premier League club from current owner Fenway Sports Group (FSG), with the transaction expected to value Liverpool at around $6 billion.

An agreement has not yet been finalized, and negotiations remain ongoing.

Deal Highlights Rapid Growth in Sports Franchise Values

The proposed valuation represents a dramatic increase from the price FSG paid when it acquired Liverpool in 2010 for about £300 million, equivalent to roughly $405 million at the time.

The potential deal would therefore imply an increase of nearly fifteen-fold in enterprise value over the ownership period, highlighting the strong appreciation in global sports assets.

FSG previously sold a smaller minority stake to Dynasty Equity in 2023 at a reported valuation of $4.5 billion, indicating continued upward momentum in Liverpool's market value.

Personal investment, not an Amazon acquisition

People familiar with the discussions say Bezos is investing through his personal capital rather than through Amazon.com Inc. The distinction is important for investors, as the transaction does not involve Amazon's balance sheet and is not considered a corporate acquisition.

Bezos has previously been linked with potential investments in U.S. sports franchises, including NFL teams, but did not proceed with formal bids. A Liverpool investment would mark his first confirmed participation in a top-tier European football ownership structure.

Silicon Valley Capital continues to enter Premier League

Saverin's involvement adds another high-profile technology investor to the consortium. The billionaire entrepreneur has previously explored investments in Premier League clubs, including Chelsea in 2022.

The proposed transaction would further extend the trend of U.S. and international capital flowing into English football, where media rights revenues, global fan bases, and commercial partnerships continue to support premium valuations.

FSG acknowledged last month that Bhatia's consortium had expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool.

On-field transition raises strategic stakes

The ownership discussions come during a period of sporting transition for Liverpool. The club won the Premier League title in the 2024-25 season under manager Arne Slot, but managerial changes and squad turnover have created uncertainty ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, which begins later this month.

A new investment partner could provide additional financial flexibility for squad development, infrastructure projects, and commercial expansion, although no such plans have been announced publicly.

Liverpool among World's Most Valuable Football Clubs

Liverpool remains one of the most valuable football clubs globally. Recent industry rankings place the club among the top four worldwide, reflecting strong broadcasting income, sponsorship revenue, matchday earnings, and international brand strength.

The valuation discussion also highlights the gap between private-market assessments of elite football clubs and public-market pricing for listed sports teams. Manchester United, one of Liverpool's closest commercial rivals, remains publicly traded in New York with a market value below some recent private valuation estimates.

Limited immediate impact on Amazon Shares

Market analysts do not expect the Liverpool investment to have a direct effect on Amazon shares because the transaction is being pursued personally by Bezos.

However, investors will likely watch for any future commercial relationships involving media rights, streaming partnerships, advertising, or digital fan engagement platforms. At present, analysts view the move primarily as a diversification investment by Bezos rather than a strategic expansion by Amazon into football ownership.

Amazon itself recently remained near the $3 trillion market-capitalization threshold, supported by continued growth in its cloud computing business and broader technology-sector momentum.

Whether or not the Liverpool transaction is completed this week, the talks underscore the continued global competition for ownership stakes in elite sports franchises and the growing role of technology wealth in shaping the future of professional football finance.
